Hey everyone, expect an update this evening/tomorrow morning. Think storming the beaches scene in saving private ryan….
The Acolytes carried Locan into the union bar, he was barely conscious and hurt pretty bad and placed him in the corner keeping him warm. The barman caught the attention of Eli and nodded upstairs and said “he’s waiting for you”. Eli looked at the others they shrugged and decided to creep upstairs cautiously.
In the room upstairs were three people waiting for them, two hulking great men with pipes pumping mysterious glowing substances around their bodies and in the centre a gnarled but wily looking man stood. He introduced himself as Luntz the head of the local narcoring.
“We’ve been watching you; you have shown great skill in dispatching of dregs and the local enforcement. A while ago I made a deal with the people in charge at the Alms house, I won’t go into it – business confidentiality you understand – but I will say the deal has since turned ‘sour’. I’m going to make you an offer you cannot refuse” He said thoughtfully, “A decapitation of the top boss would allow me to make a clean break, I’ll give you five-hundred thrones – each – a shotgun and as much ammo as you can carry, if you take out the Churgeon and Moran. I’ll also give you a pass key to get in through the rear service doors and I can ‘occupy’ the enforcer’s time if you require”.
Eli though it over and looked at the others, they nodded. “We’ll accept the hit……but, I refuse to risk my people for less than six-hundred thrones apiece.” Eli and Luntz met in a steely glare. Luntz laughed “you drive a hard bargain, but fine six-hundred thrones it is”.
The acolytes approached the Alms house, it was very grand, out of place in this area where everything else looked derelict and ruined. It was a tall mansion house cladded in green marble tiles, with ornate golden statues and symbols. Quali noticed the front door opening and hissed at everyone to take cover – pushing them behind a bush. As a group of agents came running out of the front door and sprinted down the front path to the house and back towards the main city.
Quali looked in through a window, it was deserted – just tables and chairs for the soup kitchen. They moved to the service door at the rear of the house and entered with the pass key, it led into a store room. Through the next room was the seating area to the soup kitchen, as they creeped into the room Eli bumped into a table knocking a metal bowl clattering onto the floor, footsteps thumped along upstairs. Eli dived into the kitchen just across from them, while the other three backed up into the store room. Holding their breaths they waited silently.
The door to the kitchen swung open and Eli launched at the intruder in the door way swinging his club, bashing the muzzle of the agent’s autogun out the way as a burst of bullets ripped into the kitchen wall behind him. Eli swung again but missed in the confusion but the agent brought his chastisement baton down as the other acolytes burst out from the storeroom, Eli tried to parry but was crushed under the blow getting knocked back. Quali was first out the room and swung her lasgun up firing on auto, the volley of fire left smouldering holes in the kitchen door frame. Next in was Ephese who swung her staff narrowly missing the agents leg, the agent retaliates cracking her in the shoulder with a forceful blow. Cortez tried to grab the agent, but the agent wrestled free and pushed him away. Eli smacked the agent in the ribs with his club while he was distracted. As the gasped for air, Quali seized the opportunity and stabbed with her sword cutting into the flesh of his leg. Cortez span his staff round at the agent but caught Ephese in the head, knocking her out cold. The agent lunged at cortez with his baton but missed, Eli took advantage of the agents back being turn and cracked his spine with the club sending the agent twitching to his knees. Eli picked up the chastisement baton while Quali rushed back to the storeroom where there was a first aid pack which they used to bring Ephese back around and patch her up a bit. Cortez and Eli took defensive positions while Ephese and Quali searched the rest of the room, finding a few ration packs. Another agent appeared around the corner of the staircase, swinging his rifle up too late as Eli squeezed the trigger on his shotgun launching a shell at the guard, it split up in the air punching into the agents body spraying blood onto the walls, as he slumped against the wall – Cortez took aim firing the killing shot with his lasgun leaving a smoking hole where the agents jaw had been.
On the next floor they found an empty corridor with several rooms leading off to the sides, Quali and Ephese took point at the stairs looking out for movement. Meanwhile Eli and Cortez each took a side of the corridor and kicked each door in checking that the room was empty. As Cortez kicked the middle door in, a lanky man in green robes with a wild look in his eyes bringing an autopistol up to fire, cortez fired his shotgun clipping the man in the hip. As he stumbled backwards he squeezed the trigger on his pistol, but it malfunctioned horrifically and blew itself apart leaving him with a bloodied stump for a hand. Eli was at the door and looked in as the man fell to the floor with his good hand stretched out begging for mercy.
“Die you heretic motherfether” said Eli firing a shotgun shell that tore the mans leg down to the bone leaving a sinewy and bloody mess. Searching the body they discovered it to be Moran the owner of the Alms house. He had been wearing a mesh body glove under his robes, the one leg was in tatters but the rest was fine so Eli took it along with a master pass key.
After clearing out the rest of the rooms they moved upstairs to the third floor, where a few rooms were on one side but on the other was a big metal wall and a reinforced door. They searched the few rooms but they were all empty. So they readied themselves to go in through the metal door. It opened with the master key, first in was Eli, the room was cold and clinical. As he looked around the room his gaze fell on the churgeon and then her two haemonculites. Grotesque writhing masses of flesh stitched and bolted together with machines of heresy grafted onto their forms. Eli fell to ground screaming and crying, vomiting violently on the floor, Ephese was next in stunned by the haemonculites. Followed by Quali and Cortez who were a little more prepared after the others reactions, they were horrified by the appearance but over came it and Quali fired her gun but missed as she was shaking too much. The Churgeon cackled with delight. Cortez fired his shotgun, the shell broke up tearing into the haemonculites flesh and punching into its vitals, the action around her stirred Ephese back to her senses. Quali fired her shotgun destroying the injured haemonculites remaining organs, dropping it to the floor. Eli was still whimpering in a pool of his own vomit. The remaining haemonculite lumbered up to Quali and swung its bladed fist at her, but missing by millimetres. She retaliated by driving her monoknife deep into the haemonculites chest, Cortez strikes hard with his staff causing a loud crunching noise, the beast roared out. It striked with its claws again but missed as Cortez dodged out the way, Quali drove her blade deep into its stomach and tore upwards tearing its guts out onto the floor, with a rumbling growl the beast fell to the floor dead. The Churgeon screamed in outrage as her two haemonculites were slain, Cortez drew his shotgun up quickly and fired a round off at her, it broke up and ripped into her body throwing blood across the floor. She cried out reaching behind her back and withdrawing a heavily bladed creation, she hurled it at Quali it unfurled in the air revealing plenty of scalpel tipped limbs as it landed it broke a few of the scalpels. The shock caused Quali to stumble back flailing her sword around, it clattered off of Ephese’s armour. The Churgeon ran away from them all and disappeared down a stair case, Eli had regained his composure and got to his feet running to the window by the stair case. The Churgeon emerged at the bottom of the stair well and ran outside, as the window above smashed outwards in an explosion of glass. Eli had hurled himself out of the third floor window screaming “FOR THE EMPEROR!” with his baton outstretched.
After falling three storeys he pummelled into the Churgeon’s back, bringing the baton smashing into the back of the Churgeon’s head, causing her face to explode outwards in a mess of brain and gore. Eli rolled to the side, grunting in pain and panting for air.
After a final sweep of the area, they found documents in the Churgeon’s lab showing a lot of correspondence between herself and a priest called Father Evard on planet 47 Capella. A well known feral war planet, which is currently under Imperial pacification after a strong chaos presence has spread across the planet.
Inside Saul’s chamber it was relatively plain and empty, there was a kitchen to the left as you entered separated by a small wall and his bed was tucked away around the corner. Cortez stood with his back pressed to the wall by the bed, while Ephese, Eli and Quali were huddled up behind the wall separating the kitchen. They waited silently, Quali suddenly alerted everyone as she heard footsteps coming up the stairs. Everyone readied their guns.
The agents came bursting through the door, cortez swung out from the wall firing his las carbine, the shot melting away the flesh from the agents’ ribcage revealing a burned and bloody sinewy mess inside. As the agent stopped and screamed with pain Ephese popped up and fired her laspistol straight into his open maw, bits of his cheek and jaw spraying the wall and agent behind him as he toppled over onto the floor the life gurgling out of him.
The second agent tried to stop and take cover, but as he steadied himself Eli wrought swift death with his shotgun the shell spraying across the agents body tearing chunks out of his right arm and ripping holes into his chest, the agent dropped to the floor gasping for breath as death consumed him.
The acolytes searched the bodies finding some ammo and a key to the mysterious Alm’s house people kept mentioning about. They had been up for some time now and decided to look for a place to rest as it was about midnight now. Saul’s place didnt seem secure enough so they left the habstack and headed to the north of the town.
They made their way to the deserted house and pried some boards open to make an entrance, they were just about to pass the threshold when a few dregs sprung up swinging makeshift clubs at them. Eli swung up his shotgun and blasted a round into the guts of one, while Quali finished it by driving her sword into its collarbone and through its heart. A Dreg hit Cortez with a length of pipe but it wasn’t enough to hurt him and shrugged the attack off, smashing the bottom of his staff into the dregs sternum, breaking a few ribs - before spinning the staff around and bringing it crashing down on the dregs head shattering its skull, Killing it outright. The final dreg cracked the brick it was holding into Eli’s head but it just bounced off his helmet, Eli responded by smashing his club into its stomach while Ephese shattered its shoulder into pieces with her staff, the dreg dropped like a stone.
Exhausted the acolytes searched the bodies finding a hostel key, and made their way around the buildings til they found the hostel. Inside they met the hostel owner Maxus Drayelock. They handed him the key saying they had found it on some dregs, Drayelock looked shocked and very uncomfortable, but agreed to allow them a free nights sleep for return of the key. He led them to their rooms and they rested for the night.
They awoke and packed their stuff and headed out into the cold light of day, they decided to head to the enforcer’s station, and were met inside by two enforcers - something was amiss there uniform was quite ragged and dirty, enforcers normally kept their uniform pristine. The enforcer at the desk asked them what they wanted bluntly. Eli stood in front of him, chest puffed out and told him they had an appointment to see Warden Locan, The enforcer told him that the warden was busy and to leave. Eli looked him dead in the eye with a steely glare and forced his authority on him, the enforcer faltered and let the acolytes upstairs.
The Warden was a wiry and haggard fellow, a gaunt and lost look in his eyes. Eli recognised this look as the eyes of an addict. They walked up to him, Eli put his hands on the desk looking down into the Warden’s eyes and said.
“We know something isn’t right here, were are here to investigate, you need to tell us everything that you know”
The Warden replied “I don’t know what you mean” then sighed ” fine, but not here meet me by the statue of St Drusus in Coscarla square in one hour”
The acolytes were waiting in the sqaure, Quali had taken a defensive position out of sight, waiting in case things turned ugly. The Warden came up the road, looking around nervously. He handed them a map before telling them that all his enforcers had mysteriously gone missing and been replaced by these new enforcers, they were controlling quite alot of what he could do, to be honest these new guys were running the show now. He was broken. He said they should check out the Alms house, as he could never get near it before the enforcers diverted him away.
Suddenly four enforcers showed up boxing them in and blocking any route of escape.
“Halt, you are under arrest for suspicions of Heresy and Treason to the GodEmperor! Any attempt to resist will be met with strong retalliation”
The acolytes froze looking at each other. Eli started approaching the nearest enforcer, arms outstretched to be cuffed.
Quali fired off a shotgun round into the back of an enforcer it flayed his skin to the muscle. The enforcer in front of Eli spun round to see where the shot had come from Eli swung his club up at him, but as he looked back again he just about dodged out the way. Ephese struck out with her staff smashing the nearest enforcer in the guts, while cortez struck out with his catching the other enforcer in the arm. The enforcer nearest Ephese struck out with his club catching her in the cheek dealing a good hit and alot of damage.
Quali ran to the nearest enforcer, who was fighting Eli, he spun around bringing his club round to hit her but he clipped the wall and ricocheted off into his head, as he staggered about dazed she ran him through with her sword. Locan was trying feebly to hit the enforcer who had been shot, while he swang his mace into the locan pummeling him.
Eli ran into the the nearest enforcer, it was the one who had taken a shotgun shell to the back and was still staggering around screaming and swinging at locan as Eli leaped into the air bringing his club down with all his force into the enforcers face. The enforcer dropped to the floor, his face caved in.
Meanwhile Ephese smashed the enforcer she was fighting in the face with the base of her staff, catching him in the eye socket causing his brain to haemorrhage from the impact, he collapsed fitting to the floor.
Cortez dealt the final killing blow breaking the ribcage of the final enforcer, his bones splintering into his organs, causing him to bleed out from the inside. It dropped to its knees coughing up blood.
The acolytes all grouped together, panting from the assault, Ephese rubbed her bleeding cheek, the Warden was in a bad way so they held him steady…
The acolytes disembarked from the train and made their way down the stairs leading to the station, from up on the stairs they could see the dank wasteland that was southern coscarla stretching out around them. The damage from the fires was still visible, even after the few years that had passed.
They stepped out onto the dusty concrete floor and looked out across the buildings in front of them. There was hardly anyone around, and the few people that were about kept their heads down and hurried off out of sight. They agreed to split into two teams to scout out the town and recon on the other side. Eli and Quali went off in one direction as alpha team and Ephese and Cortez went the other as delta. As delta team were moving along they noticed a rusted sign bolted onto a building identifying it as the enforcers station, it was a tall tower the concrete still stained with ash and soot, an aquilla which was hanging on the front was tarnished and battered. They continued along the path and noticed adjacent to the enforcer station was a boarded up derelict building that looked in disarray.
Meanwhile alpha squad had moved into the local market, there were a few stalls so they approached the nearest vendor and asked him if he had heard any unusual news, he averted their gaze and muttered something about not having a clue about anything, then he pretended to sort his stock. They moved onto the next stall and pressed the vendor for information, he looked nervously around before whispering to them;
“Since the Combine sold off so many indentures and the blackout fires, the whole district’s gone to ruin! Now I can barely keep clothes on my back and food in my children’s mouths! I don’t know where we’d be without the Alms House some weeks.” Quali asked him what the Alms house was.
“The Alms house is a big mansion to the west, that used to be owned by the combine while they were operating it now, these days its run as a soup kitchen for people struggling to fend for themselves”. The acolytes left the market and moved along to look at the next building, it was a large building with a big sign by the door that read ‘tantulus workers union’.
Delta team passed a ramshackle of a building, there was a big sign over the door that read ‘Coscarla Hostel’ a feint light glowed at the windows, showing the only sign of life there. They carried on past it and arrived at a big tower block building but couldn’t make out any details about it, it just appeared like a grey slab stretching up into the sky. Doubling back they walked up to a building they had previously passed; the sun was beginning to set and the shadows grew into dark abysses, it had been badly damaged in the fires and was really just a hollow concrete skeleton of a building. Looking through a window they found an array of technical components and machines, they entered through the door. A man stood inside and looked at them, he was muscular and compact - like corned beef, on either side of him stood his henchmen. Cortez started to look through the items on display.
“can I help you folks, my name is Sikes, I’m a reclaimator and these are my apprentices” he said gesturing to the people stood each side of him.
“we are browsing the items you have on offer” said Cortez mechanically.
“Well I have a few guns and ammo for sale if you are interested” said Sikes, Cortez purchased some ammo
“…is there anything unusual happening at the moment, can you tell us any rumours you may have heard?” ventured Ephese.
“Well, you don’t live long without keeping your eyes and ears open… you might say I make it my business” Sikes said winking “maybe I did hear something but I’m struggling to recall it at present”
Ephese chucked a bag with 30 thrones in to him.
“Ah yes of course how could I forget” Sikes began “It doesn’t take a savant to see there’s something awry here, honest citizens going missing, enforcer’s doing nothing about it and a narcoboss sitting scared in that bar yonder with his hand out eh?”
Ephese thanked him and they left.
Alpha team entered into the union - it was dark and dank; the atmosphere was tense and uncomfortable , two men were sat at separate tables and the barman stood at the bar. Eli approached the barman, while Quali headed over to one of the men sat down, she tried to talk to him but he told her to piss off and started to get angry, so she left him alone. Eli ordered two pints and then asked the bar man if he knew anything that was going on, he looked very uneasy as he said he knew nothing, his eyes darted to a set of stairs in the corner. Quali joined Eli and he nodded towards he stairs with his head, they moved towards them and started to climb.
“what are you doing!!?? STOP!” hissed the barman, but it went unheard.
They heard voices as they climbed and started to creep, the door at the top of the stairs was ajar and they could see a hulking great shape of man sat at a table, they counted at least three voices and decided to creep back down the stairs, crossing the bar and back out into the street.
Meanwhile, as delta team left Sike’s yard the street lights started flickering on and off, they noticed shapes skittering through the shadows and the glimpse of a red eye. Heading towards it to investigate the lights went down and they were plunged into darkness, only the drab glow of light from a window lit the area. Suddenly two red eyes came flying at Ephese, shortly followed by another set heading for Cortez. Caught unawares they stumbled back just out of reach of the snarling jaws of two vapour rats, vicious vermins about the size of a cat with razor sharp teeth. One of the rats lunged forwards and sunk its fangs into Ephese’s leg, she kicked it off. The rats were running around snapping at their legs while the acolytes fought them off with their staffs, in the shadows however they struggled to see and the rats were landing more blows than the acolytes. Fortuanatly their clothing was warding off the majority of the rats bites.
As alpha team walked out into the night air it was really dark, just the lights from signs and windows barely illuminating the choking darkness. They heard a scuffle as they walked around the corner to see two people fighting, they moved in closer to realise it was Cortez and Ephese they came running in to see what the argument was about to find they were in fact being attacked by the rats, so joined in to help them.
They were struggling to catch the rats as they were lighting fast. Until Ephese brought her staff crashing into the ribs of one of the rats crushing most of the life out of it, while the rat was dazed Eli striked with his knife and the blade slammed into the rats skulled killing it instantly. Cortez was still struggling with the other rat even with the help of Quali, the others had joined in too now, as the rat turned its back on him to snap at Quali, Cortez swung his staff down hard onto the rats back splintering its spine in two.
They took shelter in the closest building, it was a habstack upon further examination they noticed it was in fact Habstack 7. This was where Saul Arbest had lived. Ephese noticed that the atmosphere in the building was full of dread and hopelessness. They made there way upstairs to find Saul arbest’s room 7-17, as they approached it they noticed the door was ajar and the light on. Eli carefully opened the door. Inside they found a girl huddled up in the corner with a satchel and a coat far too big for her. She looked terrified, but then calmed down when she looked at the acolytes. Quali asked her if she knew of where here brother was as they were looking for him, She shook her head and said;
“To my shame, I didn’t know he was gone till days afterwards. I’d had a contract to work uphive and was too wornout to care. To be honest, Saul had been drinking a lot, drowning his sorrows and sleeping it off. By the time I realised that he’d vanished he’d been gone for days. I looked everywhere. I even went into the Worker’s Union to look for him, even though the place makes my skin crawl. Everyone just stared blankly back at me and I knew, I knew! Something terrible had happened. I was frightened to report him missing at first, but I saw Warden Locan on his own in the Square, he looked… I don’t know… lost. I told him Saul was gone, he seemed angry at first, then he just went quiet and looked like he was going to break down in tears right there. He made me swear by the GodEmperor and by Saint Drusus not to mention this again, especially not to the other enforcers. It was strange but I believe he was even more frightened than I was. I had no idea he’d actually reported it.”
She stood up and said that she had to leave and hurried out the door and down stairs.
The Acolytes decided they would camp out for the night in Saul Arbest’s room in case anyone else tried to follow them.
Acolyte #64789, Eli, was walking through the sebellus space port, his head still spinning from planetary re-entry. He was making his way to the templum mori as instructed by one of the ships crew, who bore the Mark of the inquisition branded into his forearm. As Eli approached the templum it loomed above him like a concrete behemoth, covered basteels of skulls and draped urns, there were other symbols of death wrought in metal adorning the building. He made his way to the rear of the building, moving towards a service elevator as per orders. There was a woman, he presumed from the figure, arguing with the control servitor of the elevator, she was in a black leathery bodysock with a red over robe embroidered with the sigil of the imperial psykers.
“I will not remove my mask!” she said matter of factly.
“Access cannot be permitted without full visual identification” came the cold mechanical voice of the servitor. She sighed and pulled off the mask, revealing milky white flesh beneath, her skin was covered in tiny little scars. A slither of deep coppery hair poked out from beneath the body sock, and her deep black eyes sat like shadows in her gaunt features – contrasting from her skin.
“Positive identification, Access granted” said the servitor. She passed trough the hatch as it opened, while fitting her mask back on. The servitor’s attention turned to Eli, he was granted access into the elevator through the hatch. The lift started to descend, it was a long ride, he and the woman stood in silence. The lift came to a halt, they must be deep in the underbelly of the templum thought Eli as the doors opened, revealing a room with a few crates inside and a window opposite the door, two other people were inside. A man stood behind the glass and instructed them to come to the window.
A voice came through a speaker set into the wall above them.
“Greetings Acolytes, I am Medicae-Interrogator Sand and you are the new blood, are you not? Worthy additions to our holy war? Well we shall see, far be it from me to doubt my betters’ judgement, eh? “Well to the matter at hand. I represent the Holy Ordos of the Imperial Inquisition that we all serve. Our masters have called you here to assist us in the investigation of a matter of interest that has recently and unexpectedly come to light. “Oh, yes, for your information, you are now in the depths of the Templum Mori, the house of the dead where the Lords Prefecta Mortem hold court and the fallen and the lost of the great city are named and counted. It will not surprise you then to know you are here to view a corpse, I doubt it will be your first, but it is, shall we say, quite singular!” He directs their attention to a trolley covered in a white sheet, he folds the sheet down to reveal a corpse. There are servo skulls working on it with probes and scalpels working intricately all over the place.
“Now if you will kindly attend and pay heed, I will take questions afterward. “The body has been positively identified as that of one Saul Arbest, male, 23 years of age, hive worker, unskilled labourer certified. Formerly of the Tantalus Indenture, registered habitation: chamber 6/23 stack 717# Coscarla Division, southern zone, Hive Sibelius. “Subject found dead on the midhive transit rail three days ago as the car returned to the main depot. Preliminary examination at the scene suggested death by drug overdose. Post mortem performed by the biologis forensic, however revealed certain anomies that necessitated our involvement. “The cause of death was in fact total systemic failure brought on by tissue rejection of an implanted synthetic graft organ. Said organ destroyed his central nervous system while attempting to
overcome the immune response.”
Sand lifts up a jar containing a 10 cm whitish centipede looking device, its glassy tendrils still flowing in the solution.
“In short this crushed the life out of him from the inside. “What’s it for? Unknown, but my opinion would be, in a word, ‘control’—neural and synaptic override, perhaps worse. There were other grafts and surgery of a less singular kind also; one lung replaced by a concealed storage cavity, possibly for his use as a courier. Also, one optic nerve removed, skin fl ayed from his stomach, I’ve no idea why. His system’s awash with alchemic traces, clotting agents, panimmune and the like. The surgery was expert, but by the lesions and tissue stresses, I doubt any care was given to whether or not it was painless. In fact, by the damage to his vocal cords, my guess was that he probably screamed as long as he was able to. But this little monster is what concerns us. Oh, you don’t need to know the genelore or the Omnissian edict, just that this is not only illegal, it is forbidden, it is heresy. Merely tampering
with this kind of dark tech is enough to warrant a death sentence from the Holy Ordos, the Arbites or the Mechanicus. “And I’m sure that you, as well as I, am wondering how such a rare and vile thing ended up wrapped round the spine of some anonymous habprole from the dusty end of the stacks.
“The man has no prior criminal record, he was rendered invalid by indenture—laid off if you will, some sixty days ago now and was reported missing thirtytwo days ago by his sister, one Lili Arbest, resident of the same habstack. More than enough time to get himself into all sorts of trouble, I’m sure you’ll agree. These grafts are no more than eight or ten days old at most. We have nothing else on him.
“This is to be a shadow investigation, no open official involvement and no notification of the local authorities, and no one knows he’s here either. Coscarla’s down hive, so a covert approach will draw far less attention than a boot through the door, and be far less likely to kill any leads to our heretic.
“Find out why and where if you can, better yet, find out how. Best of all, find out who is responsible. Go with the grace of the God Emperor, oh and additional samples would be a blessing if you can procure them.”
Sand instructed them to look inside the nearest crate, they found a selection of items: they each received a coblast assay cognomen – a small punch card that acted as an identity card, with enforcer codes allowing them to carry arm, A hand vox each, a hivers overcoat – to help the acolytes blend in, a chem lamp each for use when the power fails in the underhive, a coded dataslate- with the mission briefing and their character files saved to it, a biosample kit and money pouch holding 120 thrones.
The four of them boarded the elevator for the long journey back up, Eli introduced himself to the other 3. Quali Toar introduced herself next, she was a guardsman from the imperial agriworld Quintarn and had recently been chosen to serve in the inquisition due to her heroic actions in the third war for Armageddon, she didn’t seem too happy about the covert operation claiming she would rather go in all guns blazing. Next, the writhing mass of wires and joints identified himself as Cortez Bone, a veteran tech priest who had been born on Hagia a well known shrine world, but had been brought up on Mars by the adeptus mechanarium singled out by the inquisition for his unrivalled skills with technology. Finally the woman from before introduced herself as Ephese Borgia, an imperial psyker, she was void born but wouldn’t say much else about her past.
The first campaign I will do is the edge of darkness; its my first time as gamesmaster and the players first time playing Dark Heresy. I’ve played a fewtimes with another friend who is a very good and creative Gamesmaster, so i’ll be getting plenty of help along the way.
Sanctis Legate, an endeavour class light cruiser, is thundering through space moving past planets in the Calaxis sector. It has been secretly commandeered by the Inquisition to transport acolytes to the planet of Scintilla in segmentum obscurus. One such acolyte, #645778 is stood upon the warpdeck, looking out into the colours as they fade from one shade to the next and lightning forks miles long cracks across the sky. Staring into the warp for too long can drive a man mad, the thought echoes around the acolytes head bouncing off his thoughts concerining the data slate in his hand. It reads:
To: Acolyte #644578
Re: Operation edge of Darkness
You have been assigned to a 4 man task force; to investigate a suspicious murder in southern Coscarla, a lawless Wasteland in the underworld of hive Sebellus on the planet of Scintilla.
The Forensic report shows signs of forbidden and heretical sciences.
You will be informed further on briefing planetside.
This will be the first time the acolyte has ever knowingly served the inquisition, after being singled out for his years of service to the emperor and to the imperium.
Who will I be working aside? What sort of heretical science could be involved…mutation? Why does a murder in an underhive require the attention of the inquisition? Some of the thoughts that washed over the acolytes brain as he continued to gaze out at the dancing colours.
A loud beep cut through his thoughts and seized his attention:
”This is ship captain Drayson, we are approaching the planet of Scintilla, make way to the transport pods which will take you down to the planet.”
The acolyte sighs and starts moving away from the warpdeck and mutters to himself. “Feth! I hate planetary re-entry….”
The purpose of this blog is to create an account of what happens in a dark heresy campaign I run, I will write it as a story narrative to what happens in the games. It will start right from the beginning, my friend hasnt even created his character yet. We will play weekly other than uni holidays so you can expect updates once or twice a week.
